  • **If you're in the SoCal area and wanna catch up with me, let's meet up!  Email me.  Not even to talk about Thailand, I just want to meet up and share updates on life.  You guys know I'm the worst at continuously keeping in touch with my friends. You also know that I'll drive anywhere and make time to meet up with you if we set it up.  Even though the catch up meetings are few and far in between, I love those times.  Reminiscing if fun.**

  • MEDICAL MISSIONS TO THAILAND

    Hey all,
I need snail-mail addresses. If you have a heart for mobilizing in missions or want to pray for me as a friend, then message me. I need to send out prayer support letter. Two years after the last trip, this time I'm going back to Thailand with a medical team, and we're going to serve two remote villages in northern Thailand. This will be my first time overseas using my skills set as a nurse.

I need to raise a prayer team and also $2,500 for the trip including medical supplies and medicines. We'll be there from June 6, 2008 to June 22, 2008.

    ------Things to pray about-----
    • Pray for our team of 9 medical professionals. One doc, two nurses, one psychologist, one pharm tech, two premed student, and two translators. It'll be physically challenging because we'll be waking up at 4am every morning and driving out two hours to one of the villages. It will also be warm, it's the rainy season, and there are blood-sucking leeches because of the rainwater in Nan. Yuck. Please pray for team.
    • My schedule these days is also very tight for several reasons, so preparing for this trip is already a struggle. My sister's wedding is coming up in May so with the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and wedding day prep. Things are getting scary.
    • I'm also in a new relationship (going on two months now). So pray that Chason and I will be able to grow together despite this busy season. It's going well, so far.

Thanks for reading. Email me! Support and pray for me! I miss all my friends from all those different but awesome times of my life. Thanks for your friendship!

    Love,
    Erica

  • Going overseas again.

I'm thinking about going overseas early next year.  This time with a coworker who's never been on missions before.  She's been interested after hearing about my Thailand trip and someone else's trip and she wants to do something more fulfilling to help poor people in other countries.  At first I just encouraged her to look for some organizations but then I figured I'd just go with her somewhere.  Which works even better for her cuz none of her close friends outside work were up for it.  So it won't be a mission trip next year.  Just volunteer tourism.  But I'm still going to need prayer and maybe some financial support.  Maybe somewhere in Africa or India.  We'll see.

  • I was giving an oral med to a 5 yo girl the other night.  She was so cute but she was one of those kids that just don't take medicine too well.  She was good cuz she didn't cry and scream right away.  She just kept shaking her head and saying she didn't want to.  She's smart cuz this particular med is the worst stuff we have to give these kids.  I tried everything.  I brought in some yummy cherry syrup.  I told her the syrup was really good.  I let her two older sisters try the syrup and they loved it.  This was to get them on my side and to be her guinea pigs.  And then I brought lemon-lime soda to chase the med and take away the taste.  Long story short--it didn't work.  The poor thing had just eaten some rice porridge maybe an hour before.  She was good and swallowed the medicine and drank soda after.  However, it must be psychological cuz she couldn't help but gag and continuously vomit until she emptied her stomach.  Amazing and frustrating.  She wasn't even crying about throwing up.  Just crying about having to take the medicine again because her parents were going to hold her and force the second dose.  I had to reassure the parents that it was all pretty normal.  I hate giving that med.  Nasty stuff with no smell.  Just the weirdest chemical taste.  The whole situation made me wonder if a certain friend of mine was like this when she was little.  hehehe.  I bet she was just like this.  I told the next shift to try mixing with chocolate syrup next.
